About Red Ribbon Club
Red Ribbon Club (RRC) Programme is a voluntary on-campus intervention, aimed at heightening the risk perception and preventing HIV among youth. Red Ribbon Clubs have become a powerful medium to reach out to young people. Red Ribbon Club is envisaged to instill among all the students in the educational institutions values of service, develop healthy life styles, and increase availability of safe and adequate quantities of blood to all the needy. We also aim at harnessing the potentional of the youth by equipping them with correct information on mental health, substance abuse, nutrition and reproductive health: and building their capacities as peer educators in spreading message on positive health behavior in an enabling environment.
It was established 2009 in our college by the students under the guidance of teacher coordinators. The club is run by student volunteers and aims to serve various purposes like awareness against drug abuse, substance abuse, anti-AIDS campaign, inspires blood donation etc. Another chief purpose is the empowerment and overall development of youth.
RRC has more than 100 volunteers from Ist and IInd Year students. All the volunteers are working for the noble cause of awareness among the rural and urban population about AIDS and other such disease that the society is facing, and promoting overall progressive health and wellness.
The main objectives of the Red Ribbon Club is to encourage students to take up various activities such as
- Awareness Programmes on AIDS
- Voluntary Blood Donation
- Poster Making /Slogan Writing Competition
- Skits ,Declamation Contest , Essay Writing, Quiz etc
|Meenakshi Mission hospital organized the blood donation camp on Kamarajar’s birthday in our college campus where in more than 50 students volunteered to donate blood|
|Miss C.Umasri (District Manager RRC, Theni) presented a topic on “CELEBRATING LIFE” (AIDS awareness).|
|An awareness rally on the right to information Act & AIDS was organized by RRC on 13.10.09. It was conducted at kulamangalam flagged act in the presence of Thiru K.Ramprabhu (Secretary of Indram Education and Social Welfare Trust).|
|Our student enacted a skit and drawing competition on “THE LEADING ROLE OF YOUTH IN THE PREVENTION OF AIDS” for AIDS day celebration.
RRC conducted a one day visit at Sholavandan Government Hospital’s ICTC (Integrated counseling and testing centre).
|RRC students participated in the AIDS AWARENESS INTERACTIVE SESSION. Mr.A.Palanichamy (RRC District Manager,Madurai), Mr.M.Mangaleswaran (Counsellor, Government Hospital T.Vadipatti) and Mrs.A.Anusiya ,HIV person enlightened the student about AIDS, its causes , and also the problems faced by them. RRC students visited RED RIBBON EXPRESS at Madurai Junction. The objective of the visit was to know more about HIV/ AIDS Awareness|
|Our College conducted Blood donation camp with Primary Health Centre on 27th July 2017 in our campus.Dr.Saravanan,Primary Health Centre,Samayanallur and Dr.Sintha ,Govt Rajaji Hospital,Madurai has started the camp.They checked weight,HB and BP to the students before they take blood from them.40 students donated their blood.To motivate the students, Donor Card and Certificates are issued.|
|Our College conducted HIV and Dengue Fever Awareness for students with Medical Officers Mrs. P. Anbu Lakshmi & Mrs. L. Anna Lakshmi,Primary Health Centre,Samayanallur on 16thAugust 2017 has spoken about HIV and Dengue,how it spreads ,how should we take care of HIV patients and their treatments.Finally we took oath for preventing HIV .|
|Our College conducted an awareness programme for Eye and Diabetics with Aravind Eye Hospital,Madurai on 14thDecember 2017|
|Our College conducted Blood donation camp with Meenakshi Mission Hospital on 24th January 2018 in our campus.Mr.Ravi,Head of the Blood Donation Camp, Meenakshi Mission Hospital,Madurai has started the camp.They checked weight,HB and BP to the students before they take blood from them.58 students donated their blood.To motivate the students, Donor Card and Certificates are issued.|
|Our College students has participated in Mega Blood Donation camp with Govt.Rajaji Hospital,Madurai.It was held at Madurai Kamaraj University.Our University Vice Chancellor Dr.Mr.P.P.Chelladurai has started the event. They checked weight,HB and BP to the students before they blood from them.4 students donated their blood.To motivate the students, Certificates are issued.|
